Spirometry (Pulmonary Function Test)
Important Preparation Instructions for Patients:
Your physician has requested that you have a Pulmonary Function Test. For this test you will sit in a chair and blow through a tube attached to a computer. This computer will measure the amount of air going into and out of your lungs. This test takes between 30 minutes to 1 hour.
To prepare for this test:
Have no caffeine the day of the test ………..(coffee, tea, cola, chocolate)
Do not smoke the day of the test
**** Unless instructed otherwise by your physician:
Do not use your Ventolin (albuterol), Atrovent, and/or Combivent inhalers twelve (12) hours before your appointment.
Do not take asthma medications (such as Advair, Azamacort, Flovent, Intal, Pulmacort, Serevent, Singulair.) for twenty-four (24) hours before your appointment.
Do not take antihistamines or decongestants for 24 hours before the test.
If you have a cold or the flu, please call to reschedule this test.
Your results will be forwarded to your primary care provider who will share the results with you.
On the day of your appointment, please check in with the receptionist.
